Light of Guidance

you begin to lose control of your struggle against the nafs. you become less moral, less prone to promoting good, and more comforted by sins. guard your chastity brothers and sisters, and never forget who allah is.

I was dreaming that we lived inside

of a tree house that you built for me 

out of pages of books and slices of cake, 

fields of sunflowers and the way moonshine

lays on your face. 

I built our bed out of star shine and music notes

so that when we sleep 

we hear a never-ending symphony 

so that when we dream 

we can see constellations spinning in our hearts. 

Inside the tree house I hung pictures frames 

built of guitar strings and poetry. 

Inside the picture frames,  I put your heart

for safekeeping.

I wrote words in the corners

that said something like, 

See dear, if your heart should ever fall

my frames will always be there 

to catch it.
