Light of Guidance

October 2011

Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.
Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever.
Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never.

-Night, Eli Wiesel

Dhul-Hijja

“No deed are more virtuous than deeds on these days.” The companions asked: ‘Not even Jihad (fighting in Allah’s Cause)?’ He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) replied: “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, unless a man goes out risking himself and his wealth for the sake of Allah, and does not come back with anything.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee vol: 2, no: 457]

“A man was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (s.a.w.) for his worship and his striving in it, and another man was mentioned for his cautious piety. So the Prophet (s.a.w.) said: ‘Nothing is equal to cautious piety.’” —

“Go be that starving Artist you’re afraid to be. Open up that journal and get poetic finally. Volunteer. Suck it up and travel. You were not born here to work and pay taxes. You were put here to be part of a vast organism to explore and create. Stop putting it off. The world has much more to offer than what’s on 15 televisions at TGI Fridays. Take pictures. Scare people. Shake up the scene. Be the change you want to see in the world. You’ll thank yourself for it.” —Jason Mraz

Losing time is harder than death, as losing time keeps you away from Allah and the Hereafter, while death keeps you away from worldly life and people.

“People with passion can change the world for the better.” Asked about the advice he would offer would-be entrepreneurs, he said, “I’d get a job as a busboy or something until I figured out what I was really passionate about.” -steve jobs
